Context

The social, political and economic crisis faced by Guatemala, which has been exacerbated by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, demands action to position and raise awareness of the structural and conjunctural demands and leadership of indigenous women in relation to the impact of the pandemic; citizens are questioning the status quo and receptive to narratives against the cooptation and corruption of the State, and are in favor of creating an inclusive State representative of the country’s most vulnerable sectors.

Action plan

  • To create alliances and coordinated actions to demand respect of the human rights of indigenous-Mayan women.
  • To position the rights of indigenous women in Guatemalan society.
  • To raise awareness of the pandemic’s impact on the lives of indigenous women.
  • To make different levels of public authority, as well as citizens, aware of the demands of indigenous women in relation to the impact of the pandemic
  • To highlight the collective rights of indigenous women in the public agenda.
  • To make the general population and indigenous women aware of the importance of political participation in decision-making spaces.
